I loved every minute of my first tour of York thanks to the enthusiastic guidance of Mike. His great knowledge and humour brought the history of this amazing city to life. I’m definitely returning to York to explore further. Many thanks.

Margaret was a well-informed and thorough guide. She kept us all interested and shared her knowledge with passion and humour. Her little anecdotes really added to the experience. rn

The lovely Angie took us on a wonderful, informative tour of York, visiting so many places we would definitely have missed without her expert guidance. Angie’s knowledge really helped bring alive the city for us, taught us the origins of well-known phrases and made us far more aware of features to look out for on the rest of our stay. A real highlight of our week! Many thanks.

We joined the Sunday morning Tour given by Debbie – she was brilliant, giving us an easy to absorb overview of the history of York across the centuries. Despite it being chilly and a few spots of rain, she made the 2 hour tour really enjoyable – thank you! rn

Our family guide was Richard C. He is arguably the best guide I have come across in England: knowledgeable and personable. RC’s enthusiasm about York is visible and contagious, we are so very grateful for him to take time to explain and tell so many key anecdotes which put in perspective everything we saw and the history of York in a broader historical contexts. We finally learnt the etymology of the expression eves dropping! rn

My husband and I had a tour with Ian yesterday afternoon. What we really liked about it was he took you to quieter areas of the city and you saw things that I don’t think you would see on other maybe more well-known tours. We particularly liked the beautiful church he took us to which was very much out of the way. It was a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours in this beautiful city so many thanks to Ian and the organisation.

We were a group of 12 ladies from Bristol visiting York and we wish to thank Ann for setting up the tour and Wendy for giving us such a wealth of information as we walked around York. We all enjoyed the tour and we saw places that we wouldn’t have found ourselves. Many thanks.

I wish to say thank you to the volunteer Walk leaders who do free walks aroundthe city. On Tuesday my husband and I went on a tour in the afternoon Sue was the leader and gave us brilliant look at the history of York. We learnt new stuff and saw places not visited before. Even though we have visited York, many times before. Great to get such detailed information. Our sincere thanks for this excellent activity

Helen was the perfect host throughout our 2 hour tour of York. Her knowledge is in-depth and extremely insightful, her experiential knowledge of the area was brought to life, she shared personal memories of when she studied there herself which made the tour much more personal, (brought it to life in a more detailed manor). There was 9 on the tour and she kindly catered for all age groups, many thanks, Helen, Graham and Ann 🙂

One of the most surprising and interesting things about York is this fabulous guided tour. Our guide Keith was the perfect host and his knowledge was immense. Everyone who visits York should go on this tour.

We were guided by Alison who has an amazing in depth knowledge of York’s varied history. In 2 hours we found out more than we would have wading through guide books. Thank you Alison.
William
Mickelin was our tour guide and we couldn’t be happier! We not only explored the city but also learned a lot about its history and architecture. Thank you Mickelin for a fantastic day in beautiful old York!

Really enjoyed our tour with Niall. Having visited York many times I had not expected to learn or see so much that I hadn’t prior. rnWhist the tour was incredibly informative and insightful Niall also had a wonderful sense of humour – which was needed when recounting some of the more unpleasant tales surrounding the history of the city! Had a great time, highly recommend!

What an amazing AVG tour this was. My wife & I thoroughly enjoyed our 2 hour plus tour with Nick J. His knowledge of the history of York was vast and his delivery was easy to listen too, with many touches of humour. Don’t miss this real treat~ entirely free; the 2 hours plus went so quickly. Our thanks to Nick, you made our tour of York special.

Even though we had spent 2 days in York visiting the Minster, Jorvik and The Walls, we still found much new information and as yet unseen sites on the walking tour. Alison was a very knowledgeable guide, clear, concise and with a sprinkling of humour. She was obviously enthusiastic to share her pride in her city. Thank you. We would definitely recommend. rn

Really good tour in small tour with very knowledgeable tour guide Neil (I hope I have your name right). rnHe really show you the city but gives you great tips too and it is totally free which is a bit pity. I would not mind giving him fiver or tenner or even somehow support the organization. rnThank you!
David
We had a really interesting and informative tour of York lasting over 2 hours. Our guide Wendy answered all our questions and was particularly good with our son Marcus who has autism. Would thoroughly recommend!

My girlfriend and I had a fantastic time touring York with our guide Neil today. Neil helped us to understand and appreciate the city much more. His presentation and style were spot on: a healthy mix of historic facts and dates with clear personal stance on issues and lovely sense of humour. Neil’s love for York was coming very clearly through his speech. We felt privileged to be guided around York by someone who knows and loves his native city as Neil does. We recommend anyone coming to York to join tours run by voluntary guides.

Wendy was a brilliant guide. Very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Highly recommended.

Richard C was great we were a small group and it felt great to have his knowledge shared with us, he delivered this with ease and was very personable. Although billed as a walking tour, due to the stops and all the nuggets of knowledge it was an easy 2+ hrs – other tours are available but this tour is completely free which is a testament to the team that run the tours – thank you
Martin
We did the free 2 hour walking tour of York yesterday, with our lovely guide Debbie. It was a fantastic and rewarding experience, where Debbie was extremely knowledgeable and delivered everything in a light hearted informative manner. We would thoroughly recommend going along on a tour, it’s a great experience.
Jason Dark
Lovely tour guide with a laidback, warm and friendly style. We’ve visited York a few times before and thought we knew the city relatively well, but Debbie took us to several places we’ve never been to before and told us many new facts. rnReally enjoyable
Louise
We must have just had the wettest York City Tour on record! The forecast said it might rain, but it was torrential, with distant thunder and lightning. Our excellent guide Graham carried on regardless while doing his best to protect us from the elements and keep us safe. He still managed to deliver an excellent tour with a multitude of facts and details (we learned a lot) and delivered with more than a little humour. We had jackets and umbrellas, and remained relatively dry. Poor Graham was well and truly soaked. His performance went well beyond the call of duty. 20/10”rnLooking forward to next tour with Graham when it is not quite so wet’.. Highly recommended.

We would like to thank Judy for being the most outstanding tour guide today in York. For six Londoners who had never visited York before she made the tour totally enthralling (and that’s saying something considering we had 4 teenagers with us). It was fascinating and the 2 hours flew by. We all learnt so much and her passion and love of York shone through. It really made our trip! Thank you so much Best wishes Shoshannah Fenner and family

Keith was an amazing guide, so knowledgeable and provided a fascinating insight into York. Keith was entertaining and spent 2.5 hours talking to the group. The tour was relaxed and fun. It was very much a dialogue throughout with questions answered. Many thanks to Keith.

Thank you to our lovely Argentinean guide who conveyed her passion for York and York’s history on our tour! All the tour guides are excellent, very knowledgeable about history and culture. The tour is completely free and they won’t take tips. An absolutely unmissable when visiting York for the first time.

Sorry I can’t recall our guides name but he was legit, a 2 hour tour with almost non-stop history, how do they remember all that! Not only that but it never got dull, everything was presented with enthusiasm and respect, funny from time to
Andrew George
The guide really knows about the history of York and England, obviously loves the subject. She was very good at telling facts in an entertaining way.
