We did the tour on 04 August 22. Excellent and well paced. Due to the tour: we were able to walk around the city and appreciate the history and associated richness.

We went on a tour this afternoon, guided by Nick. There were about 15 of us in total, including 2 dogs and a baby in a pushchair. Nick was so interesting and informative and took us to places that we hadn’t realised were there. The 2 hours 30 minutes seemed to fly by!rnWe highly recommend a tour from these guys.rnThank you so much.

Our superb tour guide was Mr. Mick Popka. He did an outstanding job with a group of about 15 of us. My favorite part was that Mick was so informative. This was not a \dqthere’s a tower over there, it’s old,\dq but rather more in-depth with information. We went to York SPECIFICALLY because of its history, so we LOVED all the information and how he delivered it. He also answered our questions about where to eat local dishes and which pubs might be nice to visit on a certain day / time. We would most definitely recommend a tour of York by Mick!

I’d strongly recommend a tour from the AVG to orient you to York both for the landmarks but also the history. Wendy was able to answer our group’s questions and clearly has a great store of knowledge about York, its history, and its people. You can tell she loves bringing people around and sharing York with them. We were only in the city for two nights on a trip from the US and the tour and Wendy’s detailed information was a wonderful way to experience York. rn

Visiting York for the first time for a long weekend with my partner, we planned to take this tour to get an overview of the city and its history. This is exactly what happened, but we were actually not expecting such an interesting guided tour, given for free. Our guide Neil is really passionate about the city, extremely knowledgeable and managed to make us feel like the tour had lasted one hour less! Highly recommended, even for people who know York already!

Myself and a friend joined a walking tour of York yesterday, Thursday 14th April at 1:15pm (the tour guide might’ve been John?). I just wanted to say a huge thank you to the organisation with special thanks to the tour guide. It was a fascinating tour, delivered by an excellent and engaging guide who so clearly knew his stuff and enjoyed sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm. Just to say a huge thanks to our tour guide from the 10:30am tour last Friday, a charming and witty man whose name we cannot remember but he is a retired York university lecturer. Because of the high winds several places were not accessible to us but, that did not matter one bit as our hugely knowledgeable tour guide described in vivid detail what we could not see. Even the eventual rain and cold did not dampen our tour guides spirits or sense of humour. The 2.5 hours just seemed to fly by.rnMany, many thanks again for this wonderful tour and we highly recommend this tour to everybody, young and old alike….

We recently had the pleasure of joining a tour led by Margaret. My party thoroughly enjoyed learning, seeing and subsequently understanding more about the history of this amazing city. We would like to thank Margaret as her knowledge and enthusiasm on all manner of York’s history made for a very pleasurable tour.

I joined a tour on a very cold morning on Friday Feb 4th led by Nick Jones and would like to thank him for the most enjoyable and interesting such tour I have experienced. I even forgot how cold it was (nearly). Nick was friendly, approachable and above all incredibly knowledgeable about York and his sense of humour made the tour fun as well as educational. I grew up in York and have recently returned but I knew very little about my home city. Nick’s enthusiasm and grasp of history has changed that and given me the impetus to look more into the history of this wonderful city.

We would like to thank Margaret for a most enlightening and enthusiastic tour around York. We learnt so much from her and it was great to see how passionate she was about it’s history. Would thoroughly recommend the walking tour and on the donation note, perhaps the VG’s could between them nominate a different York based charity each year that walkers could if they wished to, make a nominal donation towards. An excellent tour completed on a cold January afternoon. The guide, I think his name was Kevin, was excellent, very knowledgeable and provided all of the information at a good pace wit realism and a sense of humour. Would highly recommend this tour. Disappointed that we were not able to give any financial contribution for his time and effort. It would be nice if the guides had a collection box for anyone who wished to make a contribution which they could give to any local charity and keep the money in York.

I’ll just say about Richard A: WHAT A GUIDE! As someone deeply interested in history and culture, listening to someone speak with passion is crucial when going on tour. Richard was passionate, knowledgeable and extremely kind to the various visitors. He gave us tips and tricks around the city, introduced us to his fav spots, and through stories and facts showed us a side of York we hadn’t seen.

Thank you Keith for a deeply informative and interesting tour of York. I would strongly recommend Keith and these tours to anyone unfamiliar with York and its immense history. It was a great start to our short break in the city.
