Never knew I could learn so much on a 2-hour walking tour and stay so engaged the whole time! The tour was packed with so many fun facts that made you go aha! – I was not bored the whole time. Our guide was Mike, and his deep knowledge of history and presentation of the stories made it so so enjoyable! And definitely inspired me to go read up on more facts about York and the English history.

Joanna was our guide, she really loves York and its history and knows it well. The tour goes up and down many steps some very steep. Joanna gave a good lecture on the places we stopped and gave us a good overview of the history, the tour moved a a brisk pace which didn’t leave a lot of time for questions. Taking pictures often meant you would need to hustle to catch up. It was great for the price…

Five star review!! I went with my best friend yesterday morning and our tour guide was the lovely Richard. He was very friendly, very knowledgeable and lots of fun.

This is a fun thing to do in York and it’s free! I never have any loose cash anymore as I wanted to leave Richard a tip, but I hope my review is just as good!

Fantastic free tour, Our group really enjoyed the tour of York on Saturday morning given not by a Yorkshire person but by a Scot called Fraser. The tour was brilliant helped by the great weather Fraser told us it never rains in York when tourists are visiting but I’m not sure we believed him! We were shown everything from Abbey ruins, to strange trees from a very small window to a huge one, from ancient walls to modern buildings, museums to Churches at every stop there was a story and just enough detail to keep everyone entertained and informed without overloading us. Do this tour if you come to York you will not regret it. Big thanks to all the group who do these free tours and to our Scottish guide for the day THANK YOU we really enjoyed it.

Amazing tour, very informative from beginning to end. As first time visitors to York, we learnt things we never would have just walking around by ourselves. Our guide Kevin was friendly, funny, informative and was especially adept at helping us get into the Dean’s private garden in order to retrieve my mother’s phone which she’d dropped from the Walls!! I would highly recommend this to anyone who has wants to know more about this amazing city.

Our tour was with Fraser on a beautiful sunny spring day but even if the weather had not been fine I am sure that Fraser’s knowledge, enthusiasm, humour and love for all things York would have shone through. How refreshing to have an articulate and interesting guide who really wanted to share his extensive knowledge of York to everyone in the group – no dumbing down here and I loved it! Martin was very accommodating – I’d actually booked for Sunday, the next day, but preferred to go on the Saturday and, fortunately, I was able to join a tour to fill in for a ‘no show’. We followed an interesting and well chosen itinerary with clever selection of foci from different eras. Martin was approachable and inspired confidence. Thank you – really helped inform my stay in York.

Excellent walking tour by Richard (of York) – informative, interesting, full of facts (some funny, some gory, all fascinating). Can thoroughly recommend this ***FREE*** tour – we were taken to places we literally would have walked past if we hadn’t had a guide. Some useful places suggested to visit at leisure too. Despite the unfavourable weather, we had an enjoyable 2 hour tour with Nick who was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic! His knowledge on the city was amazing and we really liked that he drew our attention to quirky features and the city’s snickleways (alleys). We were impressed they don’t accept tips so really do it for the love of the city. What a great service to York. Highly recommend!

Jim was great and we really enjoyed his personal anecdotes and fun facts. Good sense of humour and it provided a good overview of the main spots of York. Only suggestion would be having a little bit more of a chronological narrative of York to hang the various historical stories off. Thanks for the great tour though! rn
