Having met in York in the 80s, we thought it would be nice to revisit one of our favourite cities. Glyn was a terrific guide. We won’t see owls or mice again, without thinking of this trip. And I’m going to stock up on fruit gums tomorrow. And loads of history too.

We had a great time and learned a lot on this tour guided by Fraser. He was very knowledgeable, personable, and passionate. We tried to give him a tip at the end, but he absolutely refused. Despite it being absolutely free, our guide and this tour is even better than some of the paid tours that we have done.

This tour was magnificent. Our guide Fraser couldn’t have been more spirited or proud of his city. It was two hours of information and fun by a truly good hearted resident who wholeheartedly wants to share his City of York with visitors. I can’t say enough about this tour and the volunteers who run it. This is a definite must do if ever in York.

We had a great tour of York with our guide Nick Jones, even with the rainy weather. Nick was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable, and his passion for the city really came through.

Thanks to him, we felt like we truly got to see all of York, not just the main sights, but also smaller details and places we might’ve missed on our own. His historical insights were engaging and easy to follow, adding a lot of depth to what we were seeing.

The walking tour of York was a highlight of my visit to England. The York Minster was spectacular. It was delightful to see the impact of Rome and hear about the Roman presence in York. Richard was so knowledgeable and engaging. He encouraged questions and made our diverse group comfortable and inquisitive.

We are from Ukraine and live in North Yorkshire since start of war – visited York number of times and yesterday we were lucky to join a free tour of York with Richard – and boy it was great! So many facts, history, great bland of jokes and personality – Richard is a wonderful guide and great person was sharing his love and passion of York. I have discovered many interesting facts about city, history, religion all the way from Romans, vikings and until recent times. Provided by enthusiast – it was one if the best tour I had in long time! Thanks Richard for making us fall in love with York and spending your Sunday with our group, myself and my daughter who is 17 and loved it as well! We did a tour on Saturday afternoon with Mick (sorry if it is not the correct name) and I want to give a big thank you to him and the association. We are used to visit cities, book a tour and a person show the city but this is far away of what we expect. The guide was really friendly, open to questions, full of knowledge about the city. Never knew I could learn so much on a 2-hour walking tour and stay so engaged the whole time! The tour was packed with so many fun facts that made you go aha! – I was not bored the whole time. Joanna was our guide, she really loves York and its history and knows it well. The tour goes up and down many steps some very steep. Joanna gave a good lecture on the places we stopped and gave us a good overview of the history, the tour moved a a brisk pace which didn’t leave a lot of time for questions. Taking pictures often meant you would need to hustle to catch up. It was great for the price…

Our tour guide, Ken, was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and entertaining. The route was great and he kept the energy high and took the time to answers questions and share interesting facts with the group.

This is a fun thing to do in York and it’s free! I never have any loose cash anymore as I wanted to leave Richard a tip, but I hope my review is just as good!

Fantastic free tour, Our group really enjoyed the tour of York on Saturday morning given not by a Yorkshire person but by a Scot called Fraser. The tour was brilliant helped by the great weather Fraser told us it never rains in York when tourists are visiting but I’m not sure we believed him! We were shown everything from Abbey ruins, to strange trees from a very small window to a huge one, from ancient walls to modern buildings, museums to Churches at every stop there was a story and just enough detail to keep everyone entertained and informed without overloading us. Do this tour if you come to York you will not regret it. Big thanks to all the group who do these free tours and to our Scottish guide for the day THANK YOU we really enjoyed it.
