Visiting St. James‘ Church, Bilbrough, I was amazed to find the tomb of Sir Thomas Fairfax there. It is well worth a visit, and is only 15 minutes drive from York.
Also very interesting background information. Considering we talk about Fairfax’ contribution on our tours, this may be of interest to members.
Anyway I took some photos to give you an idea how good it is.
Best regards
Martin Holt
Thomas Fairfax lived at Nun Appleton house in Appleton Roebuck, not far from Bilborough. That house was replaced by a later owner during the Georgian period. The house now belongs to the notorious Humphrey Smith of Sam Smiths brewery. The house is currently in a poor state.
