For the second half of the Tour I’ve been going from the Museum Gardens via the Library and Museum Street to Duncombe Place then Petergate, Precentors Court, round past the Minster to Chapter House Street/Ogleforth then across Goodramgate to Aldwark and then round St Andrewgate/Bedern areas. I’ve done some notes on Duncombe Place and Aldwark (including the former synagogue and Merchant Taylors’ Hall) if anyone would like some. ian.tempest1@btinternet.com

I might try Duncombe Place as opposed to the rather busy (and noisy!) St Leonard’s Place. My little alteration is at the end; I will go from St Andrewgate down Colliergate to WMWMgate to finish in the ‘normal’ place.

Following Ian’s route to Duncombe Place provides a good opportunity to include some places not on the original route. There is usually sufficient space outside Grays Solicitors (or on the blocked-off slip road into Blake Street) to gather safely. From here one can point out Red House and it’s interesting history, and the Assembly Rooms (plenty to talk about here). Also to mention the St. Leonard’s regency crescent and point out the extent of St, Leonard’s Hospital. After leaving Precentors Court a slight detour into High Petergate provides the opportunity to bring up Guy Fawkes (being careful to mention that the Guy Fawkes Hotel is not actually his birthplace), returning via Minster Gates to the South front of the cathedral.
