Becoming an AVG Guide is an interesting and satisfying way to volunteer.
All potential Guides attend a bespoke training course, which includes four 2-hour desk-based sessions, plus two 2-hour walks around the tour route with an experienced Guide.
Once you’ve completed your course, you’ll receive your official AVG Guides Badge, and you’ll be on your way, sharing the story of our endearing City of York with visitors from all over the world.
Your commitment to the AVG will be to guide several tours a month. We have two Guides on duty for each of our tours (both morning and afternoon) and we provide tours every day (except Christmas day). That’s at least 728 tours a year, so there’s plenty of opportunity to undertake tours to fit around your availability – be that during the week or at the weekend. You’ll get to select the days and times which suit you best via our unique rostering system.
If you like meeting people, love the City of York and want to get involved with a like-minded group of people who have been sharing the City’s history and heritage since 1951, please complete the application form below, and we’ll be in touch.
