A thoroughly interesting and engaging tour with Judy. Her knowledge of the very chequered history of York was extensive and her delivery was enthusiastic. She answered endless questions and took us to corners of the city we would never have found otherwise. First class.

Thank you to Richard for an excellent and brilliantly informative tour of York. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I know my two fellow walkers did too. I have made several day visits to York over the years and thought I had seen many if not most of the areas of historical interest but was really surprised at the extra places that Richard included and the number of small and amusing details he added that so enhanced the tour and greatly increased my knowledge of York.

We were so lucky! Firstly, to not have the forecast rain but to have a dry, sunny, cold day. Secondly, to have Judy for our guide.
Our group was large for the time of year – 16 people, but we could all hear clearly the knowledge and enthusiasm Judy had for her city.

Our guide Fraser was an amazing guide and held a wealth of knowledge on the history and geography of York. It was both entertaining and insightful. He also expertly adapted to the ongoing construction and route closures to ensure we were comfortable and still saw the sights of the city. We gladly recommend this tour to others!

Richard did not take me and my wife for a guided walk. He took us on a time travel. Since I am a Catholic Chaplain was particularly fascinated by his talks on how Christianity influenced the York area. His undeniable passion for history made me forget the cold weather. Mike gave an absolutely wonderful presentation which was terrific on so many levels: the depth of his historical knowledge, the enthusiasm with which he shared the information, his friendly delivery and the pace of the walk which enabled us to get a fantastic overview of York. These were all further enhanced by his personal stories of growing up in York which only made the 2+ hours we spent together that much more enjoyable. Consider yourself very fortunate if Mike is your tour leader and kudos to York for offering such wonderful tours for free…by locals who freely share their love of the town with visitors.

Wow! What an amazing couple of hours. The historical stories and notes were fascinating to everyone, as it applied to the whole country and not just York. I was gripped and kept interested the whole time and it appeared like everyone else in the group felt the same. Just enough facts and social history plus time just to absorb our surroundings. Highly recommended if you are coming to York. I would definitely do the tour again on another visit.

We had a lovely walking tour with Nick yesterday morning! It was a rainy day but the weather could not dampen our spirits as we learnt many interesting facts about the city, all communicated in an engaging and humourous fashion by Nick. Would definitely recommend to a friend!

Our tour guide, Richard, managed to skilfully engage all 3 of our party (with a wide age range and historical interest). His tour was comprehensive (no gimmicky history with no mention of Dick Turpin when I left a little early). yet he gave us quirky anecdotes and insights not necessarily found in the history books! Our particular highlights were the ‘hidden gem’ (and oasis of calm) in the Shambles along with Holy Trinity in Goodramgate. A first class tour and a fantastic service provided by the AVG to the visitors of York!

The tour was excellent, thanks to our guide Wendy — super attentive and patient, since we were a full group of Argentinians with different levels of English. The tour lasted about two hours, where we could see the mix between medieval and modern, along with history and a few ghost stories. Wendy made it very interesting — a 10 out of 10 guide!

I did the tour with Richard on Saturday on my own and then with Fraser on Sunday with my other half. Both had different tales to tell and were really interesting. They packed in so much information and I would have no hesitation in recommending spending a couple of hours on these tours whilst you are visiting. We both learnt loads about York! Debbie was our guide today and we cannot thank her enough for making what was a damp and gloomy morning into a really enjoyable and interesting tour of this lovely city. We learnt so much in a humerus way as well as in a more serious manner. A great morning out. She would not accept a tip so we donated to a charity. Highly recommend.

All 3 of us (aged 57 to 11), with varied levels of historical interest, came away enthused and we’ll informed by Richard’s tour. We did the 10:30 walk with Steve. We were a group of 4 all living in York. Steve was fantastic shared lots of fascinating information about things we didn’t know about York. Would definitely recommend.

Our guide, Pete, was absolutely fantastic — knowledgeable, friendly and with a great sense of humour. He managed to explain the long and fascinating history of York in a way that was both easy to understand and very entertaining. Even as a tourist with a Greek background, I found myself completely drawn into the stories — from Romans to Vikings, every corner of the city came to life thanks to his fun storytelling style.
